Interpreting safety statuses
The safety status of each station is determined by comparing the bacteria concentrations to established thresholds. Carefully consider the amount of time spent in contact with water, what activities might lead to the ingestion of water, and the vulnerability of those involved. Potential health impacts include gastrointestinal illness, skin rashes, and ear, eye, nose, and throat infections. Stay informed to have a safe and enjoyable experience in California's waters.
Low risk
Both the single sample and the geometric mean are below their respective thresholds. This indicates that the water quality is generally good and recreation poses a low risk.

Use caution
One or both of the single sample and the geometric mean are near their respective thresholds. This status indicates that there is generally an elevated risk associated with water contact.

Not enough data
There are fewer than 5 samples of the necessary indicator bacteria in the last 6 weeks. This status indicates that there is insufficient data to determine the safety of the water at this time.
